Fringe, 5x04: “The Bullet That Saved the World” (2012)
A completely stunning example of Fringe at its most dynamic, action-packed, unexpectedly stylized (thanks to returning director David Straiton) and emotionally devastating, “The Bullet That Saved the World” seems to further point towards a completely refreshing, and most excellent, 5th season that will have me at the edge of my seat, obnubilated by what is simultaneously a complete feat of fan-service and a brilliant exercise in apt and seamless reinvention — that ranges from slight changes in wardrobe (making everyone look like badasses) to the half-ditching of the procedural formula or the trading of the conventional (and overused) cliffhanger ending for more somber, emotional and quietly contemplative conclusions usually reserved for what are perceived to be “higher-end” (cable) shows (on AMC or HBO, per example).
