Shanghai Express (Josef von Sternberg, 1932)
Granted, few things are more hypnotizing than a fur-coated, chain-smoking Marlene Dietrich as photographed by Lee Garmes for soft-focus maestro Josef von Sternberg. But most striking is Anna May Wong’s as the stunning, drop-dead gorgeous ice cold coaster Hui Fei — one of her last memorable pre-Code characters. Simply unforgettable.
