3 notes Glory #23 (2012)Written by Joe KeatingeIllustrated by Ross Campbell
I love the direction Image Comics is taking with these relauches of Rob Liefield’s horrendous 90s properties. Getting Ross Campbell on artwork duty (as well as personal favorite Farel Darlymple on upcoming issues of the Prophet relauch) was a genius move, as it provides for a vibrant, pop and unconventionally sexy look to what was originally a horrendous Wonder Woman rip-off from the man responsible for some of the worst and grotesquely muscular character designs in comic book history — that is to say, something I would’ve never given an ounce of attention to had it not been for this complete 180 turn in art direction. On the writing front, Keatinge does a great job a bringing readers up to speed, blending exposition and intrigue effectively and setting up for what could be a interesting arc. Who would’ve thunk these properties (Glory and Prophet much more than the upcoming relauch of Bloodstrike, which I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about) would make for exciting and visually stimulating comics in the vein of James Stokoe’s now long-delayed Orc Stain.
